Ellis Paul

Ellis Paul the Author

Ellis Paul’s writing extends beyond his extensive collection of songs. His first book, “Notes from the Road” was a self published hardcover book of essays on his life on the American folk circuit, lyrics from his albums, stray poems, and sketches from his journals.

His first children’s book “The Hero in You” was published by Albert Whitman and Company in 2014. It is a picture book adaptation of his Parent’s Choice Gold Medal Award Winning children’s album of the same name. It’s cheerful images were drawn by Award Winning illustrator Angela Padron.

The book can purchased with a corresponding music CD. It was named the #1 Read for Teachers by Scholastic Teacher’s in 1994. The pages are filled with lyrics to Ellis’ songs that describe the inspirational lives of some of America’s greatest heroes; Thomas Edison, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, Ben Franklin, Woody Guthrie and others. It has also been adapted into a musical for elementary schools.

His second children’s book is called “The Night the Lights Went Out on Christmas” and is a whimsical story about a neighborhood with a competitive decoration streak at the holidays.
