Alone Down Here

I hope that we're alone down here
I can sing and laugh and joke
Right here in front of you
But I hate to be seen doing something
That I shouldn't do
When I'm at my worst I want to
Be in shadow
So I hope that we're alone down here

And when we shout and scream down here
I pray the sound is music to
Someone who's never heard
A symphony to cover
The unkindness of our words
I hope whoever listens in
Will tune another station
When we shout and scream down here

And when we got to war down here
With all the fancy reasons
We can give to come to blows
The winners and the losers
And the dead lined up in rows
There never was a war without a reason
Heaven knows
I hope whoever's watching
Is making room for those
If not then we're alone down here
