The Eddie’s Attic 20th Annual Thanksgiving shows are happening on Saturday, November 30 at 7pm & 9pm. Rachael Kilgour will open both shows.
When I first started to crisscross the United States playing shows, there were four cornerstone venues in my life— Club Passim in Boston, Schuba’s in Chicago, The Mucky Duck in Houston, and Eddie’s Attic in Decatur. They formed a giant square across half of the US made of thousand mile sides. Over the course of five or six weeks I would hit these places, make new friends, do shows and become part of the inner circle of a venue's music scene. Those were the trips that shaped how I perform and write.
Eddie’s had an influx of incredible people floating around it— people who eventually became stars: The Indigo Girls, Sugarland, John Mayer, Kristian Bush. I incorporated the regional styles of what was happening there into my own songs. Eddie’s was a bit of a launching pad for stratospheric rockets and for people like me in the non-commercial game. I started so many friendships there, racked the balls at late night pool games, sang a tune at 3am songswaps at the bar. Relationships, friendships, songs.
Going back to Eddie’s Attic is always a glorious reminder of how far I’ve come and gone. Join the tradition!
