Weather advisory, one for the diaries
Windy and cold so stay off the road
It's bitter outside your windows
Stack your blankets, light your candles
There isn't a phone booth, and ain't it the cold truth
It's a lonely old highway, just me and the plows
Making the most of their payday
Laying salt in the wounds of the roadways
For your bed I'll beat the cold,
With a blizzard in my headlights, or an avalanche in the road
Snow blinds every road sign,
So I'm counting the miles as I'm going
There's a shroud of black ice forming
The radio sends out ample warning...
Up on the next hill, a trailer truck load spilled
It spun in a jacknife, and now it's a still life
Framed by the flares and the cruisers
Orange coats and one sore loser
In hindsight, it's been a long night
And where I was was not so cold
Another sound bite off the dash lights
It's more than a foot or so they're told
Two hundred miles to Chicago, my eyes froze to the road
Mesmerized as the windshield collides with the snow...
Weather advisory, one for the diaries
Windy and cold so stay off the road

Re: Blizzard 2010
Paddy, thanks for the weather advisory. I'm heading home in a bit so I can get home before the first snowflake falls.
This will be a good weekend to stay inside and watch movies. I suggest The Legend of Lucy Keyes. If you watch until the very end....as the credits roll.... you'll hear Flynn singing the beautiful and eery "Lost Child"......and Ellis Paul singing the equally beautiful and eery "Lucy":
Lucy
Come try to find me
Come try to find my hiding place
I am sleeping in the shadows
I hear you call me
I hear the sorrow in your voice
Rising through the trees ‘til morning
Lucy,
Lucy,
Lucy, come out for me
I know a secret
Whispered into the dying light
Words hang in the air like snowfall
When truth comes calling
It’s like a key inside a lock
Breaks the seal that frees tomorrow
Lucy,
Lucy,
Lucy, come out for me

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Re: Blizzard 2010
Pam told me to head out and get supplies to last the weekend and in Starbucks it dawned on me that whole coffee beans won't do me any good if we lose power at the house so for the first time in about 5 years I had the baristas grind the coffee beans for paper cone filter. I suppose I could have brought beans home and got to grinding them myself but their method and my idea was so musch faster! Stay warm! For the record, I hope the Saints Go Marching In and bring back the NFL Championship to the City of New Orleans . They could sure use it. One last note, a running joke in this house between my son and I is as follows: Who's playing the Superbowl Halftime Show? It goes back and forth in a way that would make Abbott and Costello and my dad proud.
