Hi All,
Last night my work and my music lives crossed paths. I was supposed to leave Charlottesville, VA on Thursday morning, but ended up needing to stay an extra night. The silver lining was an opportunity to see EP at the Gravity Lounge. The Gravity Lounge is an interesting little place. It is lined with book shelves. I wonder what it’s like / what happens there during the day. It looks like a place that might lead a double life.
The Setlist:
On the Day the Levee Broke (piano)
Jukebox on My Grave
Alice’s Champagne Palace
Maria’s Beautiful Mess
Three Thousand Miles
Untitled/New Song (Waking Up to Me)
Once Upon a Summertime (piano)
Did Galileo Pray (complete with story about Marilyn the Librarian and story about Modern Physics magazine)
She Was
Chris McCandless
God’s Promise
Sweet Mistakes
The World Ain’t Slowing Down
The Cotton’s Burning (encore)
Ellis is getting more and more comfortable on the piano. It’s fun to watch that develop. About half of the show was by request. Ellis was relaxed and a bit improvisational which I like. Melodies, while true to the songs, were not “married to the tracks” if I am making sense. I was particularly happy for the She Was / Chris McCandless / God's Promise run. Those are some of my favorites.
I hope that everyone is well!
Shari

Shari,
Thanks for the report! Funny how so much of your travel for WORK lands you in a town for an EP show. Do you think you could arrange to travel a little more often?

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.
